Highlights
Leucadia, south of Carlsbad, was once an agricultural
community where farmers grew tomatoes, flowers,
and ornamental plants. Today, although some farming
continues, Leucadia is an interesting contrast
of casual hippies, luxury beach homes perched
above the beach, and a strip of businesses, surf
shops, taco eateries, and restaurants along South
Coast Highway 101. Leucadia has excellent surfing,
swimming, and fishing.
Logistics
Facilities are sparse, with two small parking
lots and no restrooms or lifeguards. Locals
use several small parking lots located on Neptune
Ave.to access Leucadia State Beach. (see directions
below)
Getting There
Leucadia is located off I-5. Take the Leucadia
Boulevard or La Costa Avenue exits and head
west. Parking is available along residential
streets west of 101 or in small lots off Neptune
Ave.
Insider Tips
From Neptune Ave. take the stairs down to the
beach. The beaches are uncrowded, quiet, great
places to spend the whole day.
Don't forget to pack a lunch, there’s
no fast food at the beach. Walk several blocks
east from the beach to Highway 101 for a good
